You Were First
The first to be held within their arms and gazed upon with pride The first upon their lap, their love they could not hide Their first hugs and snuggles, lullabies and goodnights The first to make them worry, praying they got things right Their first to walk, stumble and fall The one they counted on, the one they called Loving and compassionate, they see that you are strong You, their first to pass their lineage on They may not speak the words your heart longs to hear Their love is unconditional, for that you must not fear When your eyes overflow, like a dam they will burst You were the special one, for you were their First ๐
The above poem was written a year ago for my good friend of 40+ years. Her father was nearing death and her mother also in ill health. I wrote this to help comfort her and sent it to her. She said how much she will cherish it and how much it meant to her. The anniversary of her father`s death is this coming Sunday, and we talked this morning. I asked her if she minded if I shared the poem, given that it`s personal. She has no reserves about me sharing.
If you are a first born and feel at times you are overlooked. I hope this can bring you comfort knowing You Were First!
