Words
While in the midst of my morning routine, I read a note that fellow Substacker and supreme writer Joe Nichols wrote about words. If you are not subscribing to this writer, you should be.
I follow Joe and many others only because I cannot afford to subscribe. There are so many great writers here on Substack, yet Joe is one of the top ones, in my opinion.
Anyways, his post reminded me of a couple of poems I have written. One I already shared called - Actions - I will reshare it here.
Actions (Feb. 2010) Actions speak louder than any words you can find To tell the one you love, she`s yours `til the end of time Your eyes can glimmer with the warmth of your love No words to be spoken, an embrace, more than enough So, when you tell her, she`s the one for you The words she`ll remember, are those that you do
The next poem was written May 02, 2012
Words, is that All they are?
Words that hurt
Words that heal
Words of Understanding
Words that conceal
Words of dedication
Words for fun
Words for the masses
Words for one
Words spoken in anger
Words leave their scar
Words with meaning
Words from afar
Words have always been important to me. I spent a lot of my youth looking up the meaning to words. I wanted to understand why and how people spoke.
What bothered me the most about what people said, is that it didn`t always match up to what people did. It was confusing, especially to a child.
I have met many a person, who manipulate with their words. They knew when speaking that some words had dual meanings. Depending on their placement within a sentence or statement they could use a word or phrase to deceive. They`re masters of deception using language to convince another to bend to their will.
Writers of poetry and stories use words to emote. They make the reader feel or visualized with their words. Those are the stories and poems that stay with the reader. Those are the ones that touch another's soul. They may invoke a memory or similar situation. They reach beyond the page and touch a heart. Those are the words I try and string together. I reach into my heart and soul and place pieces of each on the page to share.
At times they are my tears, my rage, my pain. Other times they are my joy, my love, my hope in a better tomorrow. They become my voice when I become too tongue tied when speaking aloud.
There are many different dialects in the world today, each with their flavor of customs and culture. Each important, each unique. Yet as a whole, the words that are universal, are those that speak of love, of kindness and do not need to be understood, because they are felt.
Those are the words I want to be remembered by. The words I shared that made someone else feel as if they mattered, that they were seen and heard, and those that spread love and light upon the darkness.
