When Night Falls
It is in the night where fear roams, whispering secretes to be kept. The blackness of darkness where the eyes strain to see. I cannot welcome it to linger or set up camp. For when darkness appears, I light my lamp.
It has been that way from the time I was young and holds true till this day. If forced to lay where it is dark, I guarantee I do not stay. Yes, go ahead and say it, I am not a child. So, be it your opinion but have you seen the wild?
The dark contains the animals that prey upon the weak. The darkness blankets their faces, it cackles their speech. Fear lurks in the shadows and howls upon the graves. I do not slumber without an ember, for the light keeps me safe.
Sometimes I wake to see if the ember still burns. I pray for rest until the day returns. A vicious cycle I have tried to break. Yet I have not. I can face fear with courage within the light of day. Yet in the darkness that courage fades…. away.
So, again tonight I turn on the light, that will allow me to sleep. If the darkness invades, I pray, the Lord my soul to keep for all eternity. I much rather be anywhere but here, where I cannot see.

This is beautiful Debra! I was always terrified of the dark, but I learned to love it.
