To Rise Up
Who would have thought that gazing out a window would lead to helping someone rise up? This happened to me yesterday.
I was taking a break from preparations of my daughter`s upcoming visit. Spoiler, she will be here tonight! π I decided to sit at the table with my bagel and cup of coffee. The table is placed in front of the living room window as my kitchen is too small.
As I was sitting there, I spotted my elderly neighbor sitting on the ground. He was leaning back on one arm, and I thought he must be enjoying the sun and nature for he did not look in distress. Then I saw him pick up his cane and wave it. That got me moving to investigate the matter.
I moved quickly past my brother and out the front door. I yelled over to him.
βVJ, are you ok?β
He signaled for me to come. To say I ran would be wrong because I cannot run any longer, but these feet moved in quick succession as fast as I could. He motioned for me to slow down.
Once I reached him, he explained that he had gotten down to look at his tire and was unable to get himself back up. I again asked if he was hurt, and he said no just unable to rise to his feet.
He stands about six to eight inches taller than me, and I would say is of medium build. I prayed for strength because I was unsure if I would be able to help him.
I got behind him as he used his cane to lean against and got him to his knees. My arms under his armpits to aid in lifting him. Then we counted together- one, two andβ¦. three, up up and yes, we are standing. I stayed behind him for a few minutes making sure he regained his balance. He pointed to his knees stating they no longer of use, with a chuckle.
I do not know this neighbor well because he is fairly new to our park. He thanked me. I was more than happy to be of assistance and thankful I mustard the strength to help him rise to his feet.
The point of this story is not to pat myself on the back, I have assisted others and never breathed a word to anyone. It is to point out that we never know when and where we may be of help to others. I could have paid him no mind thinking, I don`t know him or what could I do or passingly went with my initial thought he was enjoying the sunshine.
In life, a mere moment in time spent focusing on helping another instead of what is in our way we may find we can be of assistance to someone gaining their footing, hold a door open, aide them in distress or brighten their day with a smile that says I see you and I care.
I have faith in humanity, and I believe we will collectively rise up and make this a more loving, nurturing and meaningful world.
β¨Be the Light in someone`s darkness
thank you π
