Deliver Me
Spread your wings and fly my child Let your imagination drive you wild Cause if you trust, trust in God`s Love The beauty of life becomes enough Cause I`m trusting in him to set me free And trusting that he`ll deliver me So, as you journey, I hope you find Love for your brother and all mankind Extend your heart and give from your soul And there`s no place, my child, you`ll never go Cause I`m trusting in him to set me free And trusting that he`ll deliver me From the evil that rots the land Give me the strength Lord to do what I can Cause I`m trusting in him to set me free And trusting that he`ll deliver me (c)1998
This song is sung in a Louisiana blues style. It`s creation, born out of a trip I took to Louisiana with fellow union members. Like I had mentioned in a previous post (Unity) I was involved with my local union at my place of employment.
It was the week before Easter, and I would also see my first Mardi Gras! I seem to remember it was a 4- or 5-day trip and my first ever time flying. To say I was excited was an understatement. Anxious also, I must admit. It was also warmer there than the cold winter I would escape from that week.
I want to say the reason was a Diversity Convention and I sat on the diversity committee within the union.
This was also the place I performed “Unity”, (A cappella) in front of an audience of about 400. My knees shook and I thought for sure I`d pass out. 😮😰But much to my surprise I received a standing ovation!! 😮
When I got off stage I remarked to my fellow co-worker that if I died in that moment, I would have died very happy. 😊
Anyhow, I wrote this song on the flight home. While I was wondering what tone it should have, I swear to God as my witness, it was given to me audibly in my head. I heard the voice as plain as day.
