My brother is slowly improving. We celebrate the small victories. Sitting up in a chair and his fast flow oxygen decreased. He called to say the doctor downgraded him from critical to hopefully be removed from ICU to upstairs in the hospital for more therapy.

Him afraid I no longer wanted him home with me. He heard what he wanted to hear. I had to put my ego aside and explain I could not bring him home if he signed himself out against medical advice this time. (he has done it before) He would always have a home with me, but he needed to do his part and stay in the hospital and do his therapy, that he lay too much at my feet otherwise.

Tough love, not to give in to the emotional cries and threats. I was torn between not wanting to upset him yet knowing he required more care than I can provide alone. So, when he asked if I wanted him to come home, he was explained not if he doesn`t stay and get the help he needs and is discharged by the hospital, not ama. Also, I need help, and he could no longer refuse to allow me to bring that help in. I surrendered my fear of him angrily in haste running back north and subjecting himself to a facility I knew would cause him unhappiness.

Love clears a path, when we surrender to it completely. We must shed our ego, to love without guarantee of reciprocation. To love does not mean to lay down and be trampled upon. To love is to have boundaries where hate and darkness/despair cannot take a foothold. To not allow those elements to even pitch a tent.

To love is to offer hope; to extend the light to lead those from the darkness. Love does not command, for the soul has its own will. Love a gift to give and to receive. And it is within giving love I find the strength to continue without fear or anxiety for I trust its awesome wonder of beauty and light.
